As he prepares for his final season in a Haven uniform, Brogan Wray is focused on more than individual accomplishments.
The senior quarterback has his sights set on leading the Wildcats toward a district championship and a deep postseason run while making the most of one final season alongside teammates he has grown up playing with.
“I’m most excited about leading my team in my senior season and competing with the group of guys I’ve been playing with for years,” Wray said. “We have high expectations this year, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping our team compete for a district championship, making a deep playoff run and representing Haven one last time.”
Wray enters the season coming off a standout junior campaign that earned him several postseason honors. He was named honorable mention all-state quarterback, first-team all-district quarterback, first-team all-district defensive back, honorable mention all-league quarterback and honorable mention all-league returner.
He finished the season with 1,397 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes while completing 60 percent of his attempts. Wray also made an impact on the ground, rushing for 510 yards and eight touchdowns.
Despite the accolades, Wray said his offseason focus has been on improving both physically and mentally.
“I’ve spent time in the weight room getting stronger and faster, and have been throwing with my receivers regularly to build chemistry and make sure we’re ready when the season starts,” he said.
Wray also identified consistency and decision-making as areas he wanted to improve heading into his senior year.
“One area I wanted to improve was my consistency and decision-making under pressure,” Wray said. “During the offseason, I worked on reading defenses and studying film.”
As the leader of Haven’s offense, Wray hopes the extra preparation will help elevate both his individual performance and the team’s overall success.
“My individual goals are to become a better leader, improve my completion percentage and help our offense be as efficient as possible,” he said. “My team goals are to win our district and make a deep playoff run. More than anything, I want to do whatever it takes to help our team succeed.”
