Lauren McGinn is expecting the Sedgwick High School volleyball team to have plenty of firepower this season.
With several strong upperclassmen returning, McGinn believes the Cardinals have the experience and talent necessary to make a deep postseason run.
“I am most excited for the power we will have this season,” McGinn said. “We have strong upperclassmen returning that will all be key players for us this year.”
McGinn enters the season with a strong statistical résumé. Last season, she recorded 219 kills on 566 attacks for a .270 hitting percentage. She also contributed 76 total blocks, 33 digs and 16 assists while serving at a 93% rate.
Her serve receive was another important part of her game. McGinn recorded 136 serve-receive attempts with 10 errors.
While she has established herself as a productive player, McGinn spent the offseason working to become even more consistent.
She played her final season of club volleyball during the winter before joining her Sedgwick teammates for a team camp in Nebraska. She also spent time working individually on her skills.
“I have been working out and fine tuning my skills,” McGinn said.
One of McGinn’s primary areas of focus has been serve receive. Rather than looking for one major adjustment, she has concentrated on the smaller details that can make a difference.
“One area I would like to keep improving on is my serve receive,” McGinn said. “I have really been working on the small things to help me be more successful in that area of the game.”
McGinn also wants to become a more effective server while providing consistency in every part of the game.
“Some individual goals I have for this season are to improve my serve and be a consistent player in all aspects of the game,” McGinn said.
Those individual goals are tied closely to what McGinn hopes Sedgwick can accomplish as a team. The Cardinals have their sights set on competing for a league championship and earning a trip to the state tournament.
“Some team goals I have for us this season are to win our league and make it to state,” McGinn said.
