The excitement surrounding the upcoming volleyball season goes beyond competing on the court for Cheney’s . She is looking forward to the daily opportunity to grow alongside her teammates and help the Cardinals finish what they started a year ago.
“We are all excited to show Coach Walkup everything we have worked on and play as hard as we can for her throughout the season,” Voth said. “Our whole team is excited to compete again. We left some unfinished business on the court last year, and we know we have a lot of work to do this year.”
Voth enters the season as one of Cheney’s experienced players after earning Central Plains League first-team honors in 2025. She also was named to the Coleman Classic All-Tournament Team after recording 238 kills, 376 digs and 445 serve receptions during the season.
Her preparation for another high school season has been extensive.
Voth spent the offseason weight training with Rashad Daniels while also competing in beach volleyball with P4:13 in Kansas City, Missouri. Locally, she trained with Ella Larkin and Riley Daugherty and attended numerous beach and indoor volleyball camps.
She also competed at AVP and AAU nationals and spent considerable time playing club volleyball. Kevin Bittner also worked with Voth on her indoor game during the offseason.
“I have spent a lot of my time competing in club volleyball and working to become a better all-around player,” Voth said.
That work has given Voth a specific area of focus heading into her senior season: becoming a more effective hitter.
She has worked on increasing her vertical, improving her ability to read blocks and making smarter decisions at the net rather than relying solely on power.
“I have been focusing on reading the block better and finding spots that are open instead of always hitting it as hard as I can,” Voth said.
Her experience playing beach volleyball has also helped develop that part of her game. With fewer players on the court, Voth said the sport has challenged her to remain engaged and make smart decisions on every play.
“During beach volleyball season, I really focused on staying present, being engaged, and making smart decisions during each play,” Voth said.
Voth also believes her understanding of volleyball continues to grow each season under Cheney coach Walkup.
“Coach Walkup gives us a lot of information throughout the season, and I think each year my knowledge and understanding of the game improves,” Voth said.
Now, Voth wants to use that experience to help lead the Cardinals toward their biggest goal.
“Our main goal this year is to win a state championship,” Voth said.
Individually, Voth wants to be the type of player her teammates can depend on when the pressure is highest. She hopes to provide leadership, energy and consistency while helping those around her reach their potential.
“I want to be someone my teammates can rely on in critical moments and someone who can always bring energy to the court,” Voth said.
For Voth, though, the most rewarding part of the season may be watching the entire group improve together.
“I am most excited to practice with my friends every day and see how much we grow together as a team,” Voth said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the growth of our returning players from last season to this season.”
