Andover head girls golf coach Ryan Harshaw has made an impact on years and years of his players. Whether it is on the course or off the course, Harshaw has motivated and guided student athletes to become better golfers and people.
Harshaw announced he won’t be coaching golf anymore, which will leave a void in the Trojan athletic department.
Senior Greir Hand said Harshaw was an invaluable role model over her four years with Andover golf.
“Coach Harshaw was with me all four years of golf and part of the reason why I kept playing golf,” Hand said. “At practice all of us girls are very silly and he knows how to manage the way that we are, and also be able to push us at the same time. He allowed us to achieve things that I never thought we could’ve like second at state last year. I just wanted to thank him for everything that he has done for me.”
Fellow senior Isbel Hawley said how Harshaw reacted to all of the successes was one of the things that made a lasting impact.
“Harshaw has been one of the greatest coaches to me for the past four years,” Hawley said. “He’s constantly wanting us to be better as a team and celebrates every win with us. My favorite memories of high school golf will be his humor and personality. Harshaw has brought all of our families together and made Andover golf feel like family. Having Harshaw as a coach these last four years has been filled with so many inside jokes and laughs.”
The final senior, Emily Meyer, said Harshaw made it a point to make every girl on the roster feel like they were important.
“Harshaw is such a supportive coach and always made everyone feel valuable to the team and its success,” Meyer said. “He was able to joke around and laugh with us but also could be serious and determined. One of the biggest reasons golf was such an important part of my high school career is because I got the opportunity to be coached by him.”
