Northwest YMCA Sports Complex receives significant contributions

Two local corporations, Cargill Protein-North America and ATG Sports, recently invested $250,000 each to help build the new Northwest YMCA Sports Complex. Their generosity made it possible for the Greater Wichita YMCA to construct a destination sports complex, complete with two turf fields spanning 192,000-square-feet, four pickleball courts, a playground, staff office and other site structures, restrooms and dedicated parking.

“We are grateful to both Cargill and ATG Sports for supporting the Greater Wichita YMCA mission. said Ronn McMahon, Greater Wichita YMCA President and CEO. “We appreciate companies investing back into the community and helping us promote healthy lifestyles for all. Thank you to ATG and Cargill who have been great partners to the YMCA and the community.”

The outdoor Northwest YMCA Sports Complex, which is located across the street from the Ken Shannon Northwest Y at 21st Street and 135th Street, opened in August for the fall youth sports season. Ground was broken on Phase I last November.

Cargill’s collaboration with the Y reflects a shared desire to create positive change for everyone who calls the Wichita area home.

“Cargill’s purpose is to help nourish people in Wichita and around the world. The YMCA’s programs and services that help our local community members lead healthy, active lifestyles go hand in hand with that purpose,” said Randy Carlgren, Cargill Finance Director. “We’re excited to continue this partnership to help make the Wichita area a better place to live, work and play.”

ATG Sports, with offices in Kansas and Missouri, is a leader in its industry and assisted in bringing the Y’s vision for the turf fields to life.

“We are well aware of the value the Northwest YMCA Sports Complex adds to this community,” said Dylan Driver, ATG Sports President of Operations. “Our continued support of this project reinforces our dedication to providing exceptional opportunities for youth and families to engage in sports.”

Such partnerships make it possible for the Y to continue to be a place FOR ALL. By giving area families top-tier athletic experiences that align with the YMCA’s reputation for excellence, inclusiveness and character development, the Y is fostering a welcoming environment that strengthens individuals and the broader population.
