Hesston’s Kendal Brueggen – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Oliver’s Sports

Kendal Brueggen, a Hesston basketball player, has a big junior season ahead of her after a standout sophomore season last year. Brueggen was a first team all-league athlete and averaged 19 points a game.

Brueggen spent the offseason playing the game she loves and not taking much time off.

“To prepare for this season I have just been staying in the gym to keep getting reps,” Brueggen said. “I played AAU all summer and then throughout volleyball focused on weightlifting and my weekly training sessions for basketball.”

After two years of heartbreak in the sub-state round, Brueggen has confidence that this is the year for Hesston girls basketball.

“One goal our team has for this season is definitely making it to the state tournament,” Brueggen said. “For the past three years, we have been knocked out in the sub-state championship, and the plan this year is to change that outcome. We also are hoping to be league champs this year for the Central Kansas League which is always a challenge considering the competition it brings, but I know we are fully capable.”

After graduation, Brueggen has hopes to continue playing sports at the next level, while also furthering her education.

“My future plans are to be a college athlete and be a biology major,” Brueggen said. “I am still undecided about what I want to do career-wise but as of now am planning on it being something in the medical field.”
