Sebastian Hines-Turner, a Wichita Collegiate standout basketball and football player, knows Collegiate is the place to be if one wants to get an education and play top-notch sports.
“I would recommend Collegiate to other students because it’s a chill place to be,” Hines-Turner said. “You get a good education and the sports here are really good so you get the best of both worlds.”
Over the football season, Hines-Turner was making a name for himself on and off the field. A last minute season-ending injury threw a loop into the plans for Hines-Turner.
“Before I got hurt, some of my goals were to be one of the best wide receivers in the state,” Hines-Turner said. “My postseason goals were to make the state championship and as a team we are putting in a lot of work to make that happen.”
While the sophomore season came to end, with still two more years of Collegiate athletics, Hines-Turner knows the hard work is nowhere near over.
“I prepared for this season by working in the offseason, going to weights, doing skills work, and just doing what needs to be done to help my team out,” Hines-Turner said. “I wanted to improve my speed and I’m not where I’m at now but I’m going to continue to put in the work to make the rest of my football and basketball career the best.”
Last season, Hines-Turner was a second team all-state and first team all-league selection last season. Hines-Turner does hope to play sports after high school to grow as an athlete and as a person.
“I definitely want to go to college and play sports,” Hines-Turner said. “I’m not sure what college but a college that I can expand my vision at and also continue to get better and be the best version of me.”
