Calvin Pryor, a senior at Derby High School, plays both 2nd and 3rd base. As he enters the season, his individual goals are clear. Pryor wants to improve his batting average and reduce his strikeouts to become a more consistent hitter. By focusing on these areas, Pryor hopes to elevate his performance and contribute more to his team’s success.
As a team player, Pryor’s goals align with the bigger picture of achieving a winning record and making a strong run in the state tournament. He is driven to help his team go as far as possible this season, pushing for a championship finish.
Looking ahead, Pryor is excited to return to the field and compete against tough opponents. He’s especially eager to play alongside his friends, as he believes that camaraderie and healthy competition are highlights of every season.
In the offseason, Pryor committed himself to improvement. He worked hard to enhance his hitting skills, with a focus on increasing his exit velocity. Strength training was also a priority to boost his power and overall athleticism. His dedication to off-field work shows his commitment to becoming a better player.
Reflecting on his past achievements, Pryor is proud of his .932 fielding percentage from the previous season. Defense is a point of pride for him, and maintaining consistency in the field was a major accomplishment.
Looking forward, Pryor plans to continue playing baseball at the college level while pursuing a degree in education, with the ambition of possibly coaching in the future. Pryor previously played football but has chosen to focus solely on baseball, taking his game to the next level.
