Wichita East’s Keuntis Henderson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Emprise Bank

By Blake Chadwick

Wichita East’s Keuntis Henderson has been an absolute game wrecker during his time as a Blue Ace. The senior is a defensive lineman and fullback who has all the tools to be great. For him, one of those tools is his mindset.

“Working hard and having a mindset of being better than what you were yesterday is important. “You have to have the mindset that “Nobody is better than me.” At the end of the day it’s you versus you.”

Henderson has over 100 tackles and a bunch of sacks in his career at Wichita East, including 11 last year. The majority of this is while dealing with doubles teams every game in the trenches. These numbers have helped him gain all-league first team and all-state recognitions the last few years.

But like most players, Henderson is hungry for more.

“My personal goal is to break our team’s sack record,” Henderson said. “Last year I recorded 11 sacks but our record is 19 and 21. Our team goal is of course to compete for a state title like every other team, but there are steps leading into that position. We have to focus on building our team mentality and physically to achieve our goal.”

With the clock dwindling down on his career, Henderson took a look back at his past as a football player, and also his future as a football player.

“I’ve been playing football ever since the first grade,” Henderson said. “My oldest brother used to play and it really inspired me to play just like him and ever since I put on a helmet I loved it. Now, I have four offers from Bethany College, Garden City Community College Friends University, and Highland Community College. I’m really looking forward to the environment and academics. I really want to feel comfortable at a college where it feels like home.”
