After an impactful junior season where the Wichita South High Titans hosted their first home playoff game ever, Wichita South senior Rashawn Johnson is ready to take his game — and his team — to the next level.
“My biggest strengths are my speed and quick decision making,” Johnson said.
Johnson is a true weapon for the Titans who lines up at wide receiver, running back, and quarterback for South. His versatility has made him one of the most dangerous and dynamic playmakers in the City League.
“Something that makes me a standout player is my ability to make plays regardless of the situation,” he said.
Johnson has been playing football for 10 years and is entering his final season with high expectations.
“One reason I’m one of the best players in the state is because of how versatile I play,” he said. “One of my personal goals is to go to a Division I school, and as a team, to win state.”
South’s head coach Russ Wells recognizes Johnson’s value to the program.
“(Johnson) is one of those guys that have been key in building a solid culture for us,” Wells said.
The senior currently holds offers from Independence Community College and Benedictine College, but he’s hoping more will come as the season progresses.
“I do plan on going to the next level,” Johnson said. “Some things I look for in a program is the heart of the team — the program needs that ‘DAWG’ in them.”
To help lead South to an even deeper playoff run after last season, the senior knows it starts with him.
“One way to get my team to a state championship is to be a leader and keep the team prepared for anyone,” Johnson said.
