Heading into their final season with Bishop Carroll football, Nic Wineland and Landon Steven understand the importance of getting the Golden Eagles program back on track after two uncharacteristic seasons.

Carroll has a proud football tradition, and I truly believe we’re ready to rise to those expectations again,” Steven said. “As a senior, it means a lot to have one more year to compete alongside my teammates.”

In fact, Wineland feels like Carroll’s roster has a chance to be contender in Class 5A.

I want to compete and put ourselves in a position to win every game,” Wineland said. “We have the players and right attitude to do that, and by the time playoffs come around I’d like to make a deep run.”

Both players understand they have to step up their games in order for their expectations to become reality.

I really want to improve on being more explosive with the ball after the catch this year, and punching the ball into the endzone more,” said Wineland, who plays wide receiver. “I enjoy downfield blocking as well and continue to work hard on that.”

Steven’s emphasis is more about off the field than on.

As a senior, my goal is to lead by example and do everything I can to help our team be successful,” said Steven, who plays defensive back. I want to make sure I’m holding myself accountable and pushing my teammates to be their best.”

Wineland and Steven had solid statistical lines last season: Wineland had 30 receptions for 362 touchdowns and three touchdowns, while Steven had 47 tackles, one interception and two sacks. Both expect to improve those stats, while leading the Golden Eagles back to the top of City League.
