Newton quarterback Kolbie Estrada took over as the starter in Week 3 and completed over 50 percent of his passes, while throwing six touchdowns with 603 yards.
Who knows what his final stat line would have been if he hadn’t hurt himself in Week 7, but those four games gave Estrada the belief of what he can do over a full season.
“I’ve wanted to clean my mechanics and footwork as well as gain weight to be more versatile in the run game as well as my deep ball,” Estrada said. “I want to grow as a leader, help those around me be better, and get my playmakers around me the ball.”
Not only did Estrada work individually on his quarterback skillset, but he also brought his teammates along, too.
“We’ve been continuing offseason workouts and working with a quarterbacks coach from Sharp Performance in the winter,” Estrada said. “On my own time I get some receivers together to work on routes.”
Estrada understands that how he performs this season, both on the field and off the field, will set the tone for future classes of Railer football.
“The thing I’m most excited for this upcoming season is playing my senior season with my teammates and helping out the underclassmen grow as individuals and players,” Estrada said.
