Winfield’s Cassidy Lawrence has found many benefits in being a member of FFA, but most of all, she knows how much it will influence the rest of her life.
“If a person was interested in joining FFA I would tell them that the things you learn in FFA will carry you farther in life than sitting in a classroom with a teacher lecturing you over a topic that isn’t interesting,” Lawrence said. “I’ve learned how to do job interviews, talk to people without the weird awkwardness and personally I find it easier to talk to someone I don’t know than someone I know.”
Lawrence has been passionate about FFA since she was young and her family has been involved in farming for decades.
“FFA has opened doors for me that school could never,” Lawrence said. “I have a passion for getting more women involved in ag but also getting students to understand what ag does for our world and society that we live in.”
The spring FFA season is the busiest for Lawrence, who is competing in several contests, as well as leadership opportunities.
“If it wasn’t for FFA I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Lawrence said. “We always have something going on each week.”
From a leadership-based conference in Washington, DC to getting her first FFA jacket to going to the national convention, Lawrence has so many proud moments over her four years.
“When I hang up my jacket these are going to be the seven minutes of memories that will play in my head when I know that I won’t have this ever again,” Lawrence said. “I have met so many people and made new friends through this incredible organization.”
