Friday’s high school football scores, stats and recaps (Sept. 12)

In Week 2, the City League saw two of its top teams go head-to-head in a great game between Wichita Northwest and Wichita East. 

After a tough back-and-forth game that saw the two teams knotted at 14-all in the fourth quarter,  Kansas commit Jaylen Mason completely took over for the Grizzlies. He led Northwest to a 34-14 win to improve to 2-0.

The Hutchinson Salthawks proved that last week’s 34-0 rout of the defending class 4A state champs, Andover Central, was who they were going to be this year as they took down a good Valley Center team 25-18. 

Senior quarterback Brayden Myovela and the Maize Eagles dominated again, this time over Andover, winning 27-0 to stay undefeated. 

Andale dominated again with a 77-20 win over Wellington. 

Maize South escaped a close one over Salina South 38-35 to stay undefeated. 

Garden Plain knocked off powerhouse Conway Springs with a 33-14 victory. Eli Eck had 185 yards rushing for Garden Plain with two touchdowns, and teammate Emrick Hays had two touchdowns.

The Derby Panthers bounced back in dominating fashion as they beat Campus 55-0 to improve to 1-1. 

Derby junior running back Arieus Finley scored four touchdowns, three in the first quarter and finished with 157 rushing yards on 13 carries. Senior quarterback Krystian Dorsey had 82 rushing yards on five carries, including a 24-yard touchdown run. Blade Clark threw a 21-yard first-quarter touchdown to Michael Castillo, then had a 15-yard touchdown run. Ja’Maree Jones had 118 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Mason Martin helped lead Hoisington to a 39-23 win over Hesston to improve to 2-0.

Haven took care of Nickerson 44-7 to move to 2-0. 

Sterling moves to 2-0 after a 27-15 over a good Moundridge team. The Black Bears were led by senior Zane Farneyk, who had three touchdowns. 

Buhler beat Augusta 37-12 to stay undefeated. 

Salina Central took care of business over Arkansas City 49-13. The Mustangs continue on to 2-0. 

Kapaun beat North 77-0 to improve to 2-0.

Chaparral improved to 2-0 with a comeback win over Medicine Lodge, 34-21.

Haven beat Nickerson 44-7 to move to 2-0.

Cheney got its first win – after opening with a two-point loss to Holcomb – by shutting out Kingman 38-0.

Bishop Carroll got its first win, 33-6 over Wichita Southeast.
