Friday’s high school football scores, recaps (Oct. 17)

By Blake Chadwick

Kicking off the week was a Thursday night upset between Andover and the previously undefeated Salina Central Mustangs.

Andover jumped out to a 14-0 lead to get the game kicked off, and it was all Trojans from that point on. They went on to win 48-21 with the league championship on the line.

The Trojans, who moved to 5-2 with the win, were led by junior quarterback Will Quinn, who had four rushing touchdowns to help push their winning streak to five games.

The Maize Eagles jumped out to a lead 21-7 to put the game away early against Valley Center.
After a 41-17 lead at halftime, cruise control truly would be put on as they would stay undefeated, moving to 7-0 with a 68-34 win over Valley Center.

Andale stays on schedule with a 7-0 win over Trinity Academy 68-20.

Sterling lit up the scoreboard once again with a 75-33 win over South Sumner to stay undefeated.

Wichita Northwest won its third in a row, cruising past Wichita South 52-0.

Mulvane stayed hot with a 60-0 win over Coffeyville to move to 6-1.

SE-Saline dominated Halstead in a 55-14 win to stay undefeated.

Buhler moved to 5-2 after a 41-21 win over Winfield.

Hoisington stayed undefeated after a dominating win over Lakin 70-0.

Derby proved to be too much for Maize South. It was a close first quarter — 28-14 and Maize South cut it to 28-21 — but Derby scored 41 straight points en route to a 70-28 win and a 5-2 record. Derby quarterback Blade Clark ran for four touchdowns and had 176 rushing yards on 13 attempts, while Arieus Finley had 206 rushing yards on 12 attempts and three touchdowns. Clark also threw for a TD.
