The Wichita Central Christian girls bowling team took fourth at the 4-1A Tournament a year ago and bring back so much talent from that team, including Bella Cunningham, who won state in 2024 and finished eighth last season.
Also back is Kara Hornbaker, who finished fifth last season.
The Lions’ other returners are Emma Pederson, Addison Brengman, Jaye McCurdy and Teagan Grosvenor.
“Our goals are repeated every day in practice,” said coach Mark Johansen. “We have shirts and what we say is always the same, and that is ‘Improve Every Day, Timing and Targets, All Glory to God.’”
There are plenty of teams in Class 4-1A that can win a state title and CCA is one of them. But in order to get to that point, Johansen said they need to take things one day at a time.
“We are focused on improving every day and putting us in a good position to compete at regionals and state,” Johansen said. “We are excited about the opportunities in front of us and repping our school and our Lord.”
Johansen and his team understand there are goals and expectations but they embrace them rather than feeling pressure.
“We do not shy away from our goals at all,” Johansen said. “Bella was our school’s first state champion and she wants her teammates to experience that as well. They are so unselfish and truly care and love one another. This group has been a blast to work with.”
