Ty’Leeah Lucas, a sophomore at Wichita East High School, is quickly carving out her role as a dynamic guard with a competitive edge and mature mindset. Playing primarily as a shooting guard while also stepping in at point guard, Lucas brings versatility, defensive intensity, and confidence to the court well beyond her years.
Lucas is especially excited to rejoin her teammates in competition this season. Surrounded by a strong senior class, one fellow sophomore who brings relentless energy, and a talented group of freshmen ready to make an impact, she believes the team has the pieces to do something special. After being counted out last season and still fighting their way to the state tournament, the motivation this year is to make noise and compete for a state championship.
Preparation has been a daily commitment. Lucas spends consistent time in the gym sharpening her finishing at the rim through contact, improving her shooting consistency, and tightening her ball-handling under pressure. One area she is eager to continue developing is her decision-making; learning to think quickly while keeping a clear head in high-pressure moments.
Her goals reflect both grit and selflessness. Individually, Lucas aims to win her defensive matchup every game, become more consistent offensively, and average five or more rebounds per game. Team success, however, remains the priority, with the ultimate goal of bringing home a state title.
Statistically, Lucas made her presence felt last season, averaging 9.0 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, while knocking down 39 three-pointers. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level and pursue a future as a physical trainer. Off the court, Lucas enjoys spending time drawing.
