Jaylen Wilson of Andover Central knew after a championship win that the work was nowhere near finished. The all-league athlete and the rest of the Jaguars spent the offseason working to find the perfect placements for another winning team.
“Me and my team are preparing to sharpen our offense and defense up,” Wilson said. “We have a lot of spots to fill up from last year’s state team. I really want to improve my run game stopping, I let a lot of runs up the middle so I plan to correct that.”
While focusing on the stats is important, Wilson is also working to be the best leader he can be for the team.
“I am focused on getting more sacks than I did last year, but mostly my goal is to make sure our team is on the same page making sure we have the mental part down and ready to go for Friday night,” Wilson said.
Wilson is also looking to have another competitive season, and is excited to meet some familiar faces on the field again.
“I am ready for Andover this year,” Wilson said. “Also Goddard Eisenhower as well. Both are very good football programs to be able to compete with and this year is going to be fun.”
After high school, Wilson hopes to continue playing the sport he loves at the next level.
“My future plans are to play in the NFL, or any league that will give me a chance,” Wilson said. “If football does not work out, I will pursue engineering.”
