Bishop Carroll’s Liza Dugan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hog Wild Pit BBQ

As Bishop Carroll looks to build on its recent success, senior Liza Dugan will once again be a key piece for the Golden Eagles.

“Some of my individual strengths are my ability to read the game well and being a technically skilled player who can attack out of the back and create chances for my team,” Dugan said. “I also always track back to help keep the back line organized.”

While her talent stands out, Dugan’s approach to the game focuses heavily on preparation and energy.

“My mindset in practice is determination to work hard and push my teammates,” Dugan said. “We have a good mixture of getting things done while still having fun. Being able to smile and laugh at practice keeps everyone wanting to keep working. During games I focus on confidence, communication, high energy, and playing simple.”

Head coach Greg Rauch said Dugan’s leadership extends well beyond the field. “Liza is in that upper echelon of high school students,” Rauch said. “She is a National Honor Society member and was voted community coordinator at Bishop Carroll. She was also voted Homecoming Queen, which speaks to what her peers think of her. She is humble, kind, and bubbly in the hallways of our school.”

Rauch believes her competitive spirit and athletic ability have been just as important to the soccer program’s success.

“Liza was an integral part of our historic undefeated state title run last year,” Rauch said. “She scored 10 goals and had 12 assists from the outside back position. She could play anywhere on the field and be dominant.”
