Buhler’s Easton Fisher – Athlete Spotlight

Easton Fisher spent his freshman year figuring out which sport he wanted to pursue.

After choosing football, Fisher eventually realized there was another sport he could not stay away from.

Now a sophomore at Buhler High School, Fisher is back on the soccer field and ready to make an impact at the varsity level.

“I’m most excited about being back playing soccer and competing with my teammates,” Fisher said. “After not playing last year, I realized how much I missed the game, so I’m excited to see what we can accomplish as a team.”

Fisher’s return to soccer comes after years of playing the sport. He started at the YMCA when he was about 3 years old before transitioning to Club Azzurri in Hutchinson at age 5.

Because middle school soccer is played in the spring, Fisher was also able to play football. Heading into his freshman year, he was unsure which sport he wanted to pursue.

He ultimately chose football, but the decision did not last.

“I chose football, but midway through the season I realized how much I missed soccer and knew I wanted to come back,” Fisher said.

That decision has fueled his preparation heading into this season.

Fisher participated in three-day-a-week training sessions throughout the summer while also spending significant time in the gym working to build strength. He also gained valuable game experience playing in the McPherson League and a Striker Tournament.

“I’ve tried to use the offseason to get as many touches and reps as possible so I’m ready to contribute this season,” Fisher said.

As Fisher prepares for his first varsity season, he has identified several areas where he wants to become a more complete player.

One of his biggest priorities is becoming more comfortable using his left foot.

“One area I really want to improve is becoming more confident and consistent with both feet, especially with my dribbling and shooting,” Fisher said. “I’ve always been stronger with my right foot, so this summer I’ve spent extra time doing drills with my left.”

Fisher has also focused on improving his finishing around the goal. He has worked on one-touch finishing to become quicker and more effective when opportunities arise.

The work is designed to help Fisher establish himself as a reliable scoring threat for the Buhler offense.

As a team, Fisher has his sights set on competing for a league championship and making a deep postseason run.

“As a team, one of my biggest goals is for us to compete for a league title and make a deep postseason run,” he said. “We have a lot of potential, and I want to do whatever I can to help us be successful.”

Individually, Fisher wants to become more than just a scorer. He hopes to improve his finishing, create opportunities for teammates and develop into a well-rounded striker.

“I want to become a more consistent scoring threat, improve my finishing, and create more opportunities for my teammates,” Fisher said. “I also want to keep developing into a more complete striker and be someone my team can count on in the big moments.”
