For Easton Carter, success this season has been measured by much more than statistics. The Clearwater
standout has embraced a leadership role while helping guide a young team through the ups and downs
of the season.
“My main focus was playing free and being a leader for the young team we have this year,” Carter said.
“I wanted to take some underclassmen under my wing and work with them throughout the season on
mental and physical challenges.”
Carter said his experience and mentality have become some of his biggest strengths, especially when it
comes to helping teammates handle pressure-filled moments during games.
“My strengths come from my experience and mentality,” he said. “I utilize these strengths by talking
through situations with my teammates and how I would approach them.”
After learning from difficult moments in previous seasons, Carter made it a priority to improve his
composure in pressure situations. He specifically reflected on last year’s regional tournament and used
the offseason as an opportunity to prepare himself mentally against tougher competition.
“I wanted to work on staying calm in the big moments,” Carter said. “Last regionals, I tried to do too
much at the plate, so this o season I faced good competition. That way, every at-bat that came my way
this season was just another at-bat.”
Although an injury earlier this season shifted some of his focus away from personal production, Carter
said his attention has remained centered on the team and its overall success.
“Due to an injury earlier this season, I have focused on my team and not the stats,” he said.
For Carter, a successful season is not solely determined by wins and losses, but by the way Clearwater
competes every time it takes the field.
“A successful season would be us competing hard every game and putting ourselves in a position to win
in the postseason,” Carter said.
