Ava Boden, a senior at Derby High School, is gearing up for her final season of softball. As a versatile athlete, she plays both pitcher and outfield. Boden also serves as an all-around utility player. “I’m focused on improving my stats this season in pitching, hitting, and scoring,” Boden shared with Vype Magazine. “To do that, I need to stay mentally sharp and give my best effort every game.” After earning AVCTL 2nd Team Utility honors last year, she aims for AVCTL 1st Team Utility honors this season.
As a team leader, Boden’s goals extend beyond personal success. “I want our team to have strong chemistry, maximum effort, and ultimately win league, regionals, and state,” she said. Boden’s excited to make the most of her final high school softball season, especially with some of her childhood best friends by her side. Boden looks forward to memorable moments, including team road trips and fierce competition. “Maize South beat us twice last year, so I’m ready to come out on top this season,” she added. The Dodge City tournament is another challenge she’s excited to take on this season.
Over the offseason, Boden was committed to improving her game. She participated in one-on-one hitting and pitching sessions with college coaches, played in softball tournaments with her club team, and worked out regularly to increase her power.
Looking ahead, Boden plans to continue her softball career at a JUCO while studying elementary school education, eventually transferring to a four-year institution. When she’s not on the field, she enjoys fishing, working out, and spending time with friends.
