Kallie Rickords a point guard from Derby High School is focusing this season on one game at a time. “We’re taking this season one game at a time since we’re so young this year. We have a lot of sophomores on the team, as well as freshman.” After the regular season is finished, it is one game at a time for league. Then one game at a time for substate, hopefully all the way to state.
A goal for this year Rickords would like to accomplish is winning first the midseason meet, but not just stopping there, Rickords would like to also get the win at state. Besides the tournaments, Rickords is looking forward to playing some teams in the GWAL league. Derby is part of the ACVTL, and they don’t normally play Wichita teams.
To prepare for the season, Rickords played in tournaments with a summer team. Rickords also attended a basketball camp at Emporia. Rickords has been spending extra time getting ready for this senior and final year of high school basketball with the hopes of getting the state title as well. During Rickords sophomore and junior year, the team placed third and fourth during those years, but Rickords and the team want to have the first place by their name.
After graduation this coming spring, Rickords has committed to play basketball for Cowley County Community College. In addition to basketball, Rickords will be studying pre nursing. Eventually, Rickords would like to become a Physicians Assistant and continue education after Cowley County.
