Hitting the courts for her senior year is a senior from Derby High School Lily Waters. Waters plays outside hitter and is a defensive specialist for Derby. A goal for this season set by Waters is to come back strong on the court after an ACL tear. In addition to her individual comeback goal, Waters would like for her team to make the state tournament and build stronger connections with all of her teammates.
One of Waters favorite things during the season is bonding with the team, giving Waters a chance to build those connections with her teammates. Waters shared how she loves traveling on the bus with her teammates on meet days. A highlight off the court for Waters and the team is doing each other’s hair. “I’m looking forward to playing with all my best friends again.”
Because of the ACL tear, Waters spent much of the offseason working on physical therapy. For volleyball preparations, Waters went to training camps with her friends. She also lifted weights to help with building strength. Hopefully with the training done by Waters, she can hold the title of best hitter for the second year in a row. For Derby, Waters held the best hitting percentage during her junior year.
After senior graduation this coming spring, Waters would like to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level, but is currently undecided of what college to commit to. Waters is also involved in Student to Student. She volunteers at her church, plays club volleyball, and participated in track for two years.
