Derby’s Logan Davis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

For Logan Davis, this season was about growth — both on and off the track. The Derby athlete entered the year focused on improving his performances while continuing to develop as a teammate and leader for the Panthers’ program.

“My primary focus this season was to progress as much as possible and to grow as an athlete and productive member of society,” Davis said. “I wanted to accomplish making it back to state and getting to 50 seconds in the 400-meter dash.”

Davis has steadily improved in the 400 throughout his high school career. After posting a time of 53.29 seconds in 2025, he lowered it to 53.10 this season. He also contributed to Derby’s 4×400-meter relay teams, helping the Panthers remain competitive at meets throughout the year.

One of the team’s biggest accomplishments came during the postseason when Derby earned regional runner-up honors.

Davis believes his biggest impact comes from his leadership and ability to stay focused in difficult moments.

“I would say my strengths are being a leader and staying focused even when it may be hard to do so,” Davis said. “This can be utilized through the team as making practices more competitive and making the meets just as good for us to grow.”

As the season approached, Davis shifted his goals from simply returning to state competition to consistently lowering his times. That mindset carried into the offseason, where he committed himself to extra training away from organized practices.

“I mainly wanted to get back to state, but as the season got closer, I started focusing more on dropping my times more and more,” Davis said. “Through the offseason, I was in the gym every day after work and I would go to the track about two times a week.”

For Davis, success is measured not only by postseason appearances, but also by the progress the team makes each week.

“For my team and I, a successful season would be going to state and continuing to be consistent or getting better every meet,” Davis said.
