Derby’s Mason Bui – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Door Rescue

Lacing up his sneakers for senior year of basketball is Mason Bui. Bui competes for Derby High School and plays in positions 2, 3, and 4. Senior year is about making memories and spending time with teammates. Bui is doing just that by enjoying senior year and is looking forward to one game at a time. Taking in each game and spending time with friends and teammates. “I’m looking forward to spending my last season with my teammates.”

The goal set by senior leader Bui and teammates is to win state. Derby has started the season out strong and is ranked within the top four for 6A west sub-state bracket. Sub-state begins March 4th for boys’ basketball and the state champion for 6A will be crowned March 15th at Wichita State University.

To prepare for the state run and the last season of basketball, Bui put in extra time training. Bui spent time to prepare for the season working with a trainer one on one. The team and Bui spent a lot of time working out together to hopefully help the team make the run to the end of the season win.

Last season, Bui was tasked to guard some of the opposing team’s best players. “Something I was proud of last season was being able to guard the other team’s best players.”

This coming spring, Bui will graduate from Derby High School. After graduation, Bui plans to attend Kansas State University. In addition to basketball, Bui enjoys waterfowl hunting, deer hunting, clay pigeon shooting, and noodling.
