Calen Wente is a 6’5 center for the Fairfield Falcons boys basketball team.
Despite a slow start to the season, Wente is confident in his teammates and his ability, as he is averaging 15.1 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game, and 2 blocks.
The senior is a three-sport athlete who has been playing basketball since third grade. With his big and strong frame, Wente is always a matchup problem.
“I believe I am a key player to our team. My value and play style are unique, along with my build, which makes me stand out,” Wente said. “As a team, we would like to win as much as possible and work hard every day to make ourselves and the players around us better.”
As a senior, Wente has personal and team goals but knows he owes it to his team to be a leader.
“As a team, we would like to win as much as possible and work hard every day to make ourselves and the players around us better,” Wente said. “As an individual player, I set high bars for myself to be a leader and make the game enjoyable for everyone, I want to win as much as mentally and physically possible.”
On the court, Wente doesn’t care about trying to be anything he isn’t. He will always be himself.
“Understanding what makes an athlete is making mistakes,” Wente said. “He can approach perfection, but you can never catch it. Being an athlete is being yourself, and I, as an athlete that stands out, is because I take full action into who God made me. And that’s myself.”
