Fort Scott’s Aubrey Yarick – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Briggs Auto Group Fort Scott

Fort Scott High School junior catcher Aubrey Yarick helped to lead the Tigers to a record of 20-6 last season.  Fort Scott was 8-2 in league play, which was good enough to see them crowned SEK champions.  Yarick hit two home runs in regional play, propelling the Tigers into the state tournament.  Unfortunately, their incredible journey ended quickly, when they lost in the first round at state.

Now, Yarick and her teammates are champing at the bit to get back and complete some unfinished business. “I look forward to having the same team I had last year back, and hopefully making it to state for the third season in a row.  I really want to win league and become regional champs again, but I’m particularly looking forward to state, because I believe this year we can place.”

Aubrey realizes that, if the Tigers are going to take that next step, she is going to have to be one of the players who will be looked at to lead the charge, “As a catcher I am expected to be a leader. We are planning to have everyone back, so we should have good leadership with our seniors and a lot of experienced players.”

Despite a loaded schedule, Yarick, who was named Second-Team All-SEK and was additionally an Honorable-Mention All-State nominee as a sophomore, is putting in a lot of time in the off-season to ensure that she accomplishes those goals. “I have worked a lot on continuing to be a consistent hitter by doing tee work.”

Yarick also plays volleyball and basketball for the Tigers.  When she is not competing, she is active in Fort Scott’s school culture, participating in Student Council and FCA. Aubrey is equally impressive in the classroom, carrying an impressive 4.0 G.P.A.     She is still deciding what she wants to do after high school, but she currently plans to attend a four-year university.
