For Kane Dunlavy, the game of baseball has always been about putting in work. The Goddard junior has spent years developing his game, and now he’s stepping into a bigger role as someone his team can rely on.
Dunlavy, who has been playing baseball since he was five years old, knows that this Goddard team can be really special. The energy and bond between players have helped create a positive environment that shows up every time they take the field.
“Our biggest strengths are the bonds we have with one another and the energy we bring to the dugout,” Dunlavy said.
That energy carries over into how Dunlavy approaches both practice and games.
“My mindset is to go all out no matter what I’m doing,” Dunlavy said. “I just listen to my coaches and teammates and give my all to whatever they need me to do.”
With the season underway, Dunlavy and his teammates have their sights set on a big goal.
“Our team goal is to go to state and win it all,” Dunlavy said. “I have 100 percent confidence in my coaches and teammates to do it.”
Individually, Dunlavy is focused on continuing to grow into a stronger leader. While he naturally leads by example, he’s pushing himself to become more vocal and impactful for his team.
“I lead by example, but one of my goals is to become a more vocal leader,” Dunlavy said. “I want to be the best teammate I can be.”
Looking ahead, Dunlavy hopes to continue his baseball career at the next level while pursuing a future in physical therapy. Even with those long-term goals, his focus remains on the present—helping his team succeed and continuing to build a strong culture within the Goddard program.
“I think the biggest thing for our program is continuing to build the culture,” Dunlavy said. “Setting a standard for what it means to be a great teammate and how we go about things every day.”
