Goddard High School senior Maddyn Snyder is fully ready to embrace her final season with the Lions. Snyder is eager to bring leadership, determination, and a team-first mentality to the pitch each day. A center back by trade, Snyder has carved out a reputation as a steady defensive presence while continuing to push herself to expand her impact in new ways. “I am looking forward to playing and scoring more,” Snyder said. “I am also excited to find more success this year.”
As a two-year team captain, Snyder leads with quiet confidence – a confidence that resonates throughout the roster. “I am a captain, but a leader who leads by example and with kindness,” she said, emphasizing the importance of culture and accountability within the team.
Coming off an 8-9 season that ended in a first-round playoff loss, the Lions are focused on growth. Although it is early in the season, Goddard sits at 3-2, and Snyder believes the group has the potential to surprise opponents. “We are a very skilled group of girls who have a good chance of upsetting a lot of talented teams this year,” she said.
Individually, Snyder has set ambitious goals, especially given her defensive role. “I want to score a goal, which is hard playing a defensive position,” she said. “I also want to advance further in regionals this year.”
Her commitment to improvement has been evident, particularly in refining her first touch and ball control during the offseason. Snyder also takes pride in her versatility, including time spent as a backup goalkeeper, where she allowed just two goals all season.
Beyond soccer, Snyder is a standout student who is active in the Lions’ school culture and is a leader of multiple activities. Maddyn boasts a 4.3 GPA and an impressive score of 26 on the ACT. In addition these accolades, she has earned two state medals in powerlifting, and participates in Madrigals, tennis, GHS Student Council, NHS, and Ambassadors.
After graduation, Snyder plans to attend Emporia State University to study secondary math education, continuing her drive for excellence both on and off the field.
