Haven High School’s cross country runner Austin Honeycutt is finishing out senior year competition. For a team goal, Honeycutt would like to see the team compete well at meets and even place well at some meets. As the season progresses Honeycutt would like to see the team as a whole improve. Individually, Honeycutt would like to make it to the state tournament.
For Honeycutt, the league meet and regional meet are some favorites. “Both of those are tough meets, but a great opportunity to run against some of the top competition and really showcase my skills.” In addition to running at these end of the season meets, Honeycutt is looking forward to spending time with teammates and just soaking up all the memories during senior year.
Not only does Honeycutt run in cross country, but also competes in track. After track last season ended, Honeycutt went straight into training for cross country. Honeycutt spent time running hills over the summer to prepare for the last season of cross country. Longer runs were also a part of training for Honeycutt leading into the fall.
Last year as a junior, Honeycutt shared it was a down year. This year Honeycutt has prepared and has been ready to tackle all the courses. “I was just excited for a fresh start and opportunity to avenge last season.”
In the fall of 2025, Honeycutt has plans to attend Hutchinson Community College. After HCC, Honeycutt will transfer to The University of Kansas to obtain a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science and meteorology. Besides cross country and track, Honeycutt is a part of FCA and is Stuco vice President for the senior class. Honeycutt is part of the Wildcat Network for Haven, making videos for the school to broadcast.
