Hutchinson High School girls’ basketball team has been working hard this regular season to focus on the end of the season goal of making State. Senior point guard Lily Rodriguez not only is leading the team to this goal of potential post-season play but has also set individual goals as well. During the season, Rodriguez would like to average six points per game and five assists per game. As a junior, Rodriguez averaged 2.4 points per game and 2.8 assists per game.
As a senior, Rodriguez hopes to enjoy every game and enjoy her teammates and friends throughout the season for one last run at a state title. Rodriguez is also looking forward to rivalry games Hutchinson gets to play. These are always favorites of the team.
During the summer months, Rodriguez and her teammates attended camps together. Not only did this help improve the skills of Rodriguez and her teammates, but it also helped with team chemistry. “Our team chemistry has come a long way since last season.”
In addition to basketball, Rodriguez has been a part of the varsity soccer team for four years, finishing out her fourth season this spring. During the fall, Rodriguez played for the varsity golf team for three years. Besides sports, Rodriguez is involved in clubs like student council, National Honor Society, DECA, and has run the school coffee shop for two years.
Next fall, Rodriguez will attend Hutchinson Community College and then Kansas State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
