As Robert Hunter enters his senior year at Hutchinson High School, the dual-threat quarterback and cornerback has one clear mission: finish his high school career as one of the best players in Kansas.
Hunter, Class of 2026, has set the bar high. His goals include becoming the top player in the state, winning the Gatorade Player of the Year award, and most importantly, leading the Salt Hawks to a state championship. Individually, he’s aiming to throw and rush for over 1,000 yards each, while also locking down receivers with at least seven interceptions and 60 tackles from the secondary.
For this season, Hunter shared some things he is looking forward to. “I’m looking forward to playing my last year with my brothers and showing what we can really do,” said Hunter. “Teams like Andover Central and Derby are on my radar. I’m ready for the challenge.”
Last season, Hunter passed for 1,605 yards and 18 touchdowns, completing an impressive 92 of 118 passes for a .780 completion rate. He added 409 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground, totaling 23 touchdowns. On defense, in just three games at cornerback, he posted six pass breakups and four tackles.
Off the field, Hunter has been hard at work improving his leadership and presence. “I focused on being more dominant in all aspects,” he told Vype Magazine. Hunter’s efforts have paid off, earning him three Division I offers. He recently committed to South Dakota State University, turning heads across the Midwest.
In addition to football, Hunter is a three-sport athlete, also competing in basketball and track. With unmatched drive and elite skill, Robert Hunter is primed to leave a lasting legacy at Hutchinson High School.
