Kevin Watkins is a senior from Maize High School and plays on the defensive line for The Eagles. Watkins shared with Vype Magazine goals for the team for his senior year. “I think the team goal is always a state title, so making a run for the playoffs is something we are all focused on.”
Individually, a goal for Watkins is to make a strong return to the football field. After finishing a disappointing junior season early with an ACL injury in week three against Newton and surgery, Watkins is ready for his comeback this senior year on the football field. Not only is Watkins making a comeback, but he would like to go out with a bang and earn all-league honors.
City rival Maize South is a game Watkins is really looking forward to playing. The rivalry can get a little heated between the two schools and last year’s outcome wasn’t what Maize was hoping for. Maize has also moved up to the 6A division and Watkins and his teammates are up for the challenge.
Over the summer months, Watkins and his teammates participated in school conditioning in the morning. The team also offered a camp without pads and two camps with pads to prepare for this upcoming season.
After graduation this coming spring, Watkins would like to attend Kansas State University to pursue a career in engineering, but for right now the decision is a little fluid and not set in stone. In addition to football, Watkins participates in varsity powerlifting, National Honor Society and Red Rage pep club board.
