One of the main reasons Oxford’s Madison Mayfield joined SCCDAT was to have an influence on the next generation of Wildcats.
“Some things that I have learned about myself while being in SCCDAT is that I really like being involved with the younger kids and teaching them how we should be as SCCDAT members or just being a good influence to kids in our school,” Mayfield said. “I think I have changed in some aspects because it has made me want to be a good influence for everyone around me since I am very involved in SCCDAT.”
There are several activities the Oxford SCCDAT program puts on throughout the school year that teaches responsibility and respect.
“Some things that our Oxford SCCDAT Club does is we do Red Ribbon Week every year so we have signs and posters hanging around the school and you can sign it and pledge to drug and alcohol free,” Mayfield said. “We also do many activities with the elementary kids and high schoolers to teach them good ways to be drug and alcohol free. We also go to our town library every month and take two SCCDAT members and read to daycare kids.
Mayfield said it’s important for interested students to join SCCDAT. They can be role models for younger students who don’t have them.
“It is such an important club to be in and is a great opportunity that we have in our school to be a good role model for other kids and show your responsibility,” Mayfield said. “We also do many fun things so it is a fun and good club to be a part of!
