For RayJ Logan, the goal entering the season was simple: compete with the best teams in the league and continue building consistency as a group for Valley Center High School basketball.
“My primary focus for the past season was mainly to compete with the best of the best in our league and to steadily improve as a team,” Logan said. “I wanted to accomplish a regional title, but we just came up short by a couple points.”
Even with the disappointment of narrowly missing a regional championship, Logan helped lead Valley Center to a successful season while emerging as one of the team’s leaders on both ends of the floor.
Logan averaged 12.2 points, 2.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game while earning Second Team All-AVCTL Division I honors along with 5A honorable mention recognition.
One of the biggest areas Logan focused on throughout the year was becoming more disruptive defensively. He said improving his activity and awareness on defense became a priority during the offseason.
“Some things I wanted to work on this season was my defense and being active on defense and being disruptive on that end of the floor,” Logan said. “Things I did in the offseason to improve that is learning how to be in passing lanes as well as learning when to reach to end up with a steal.”
That work translated directly to the court, where Logan became a consistent playmaker defensively and helped set the tone with his energy and communication.
“What I consider to be a strength for me would be being vocal on the floor and as well as in practice,” Logan said. “I utilize this by talking to and encouraging my teammates.”
For Logan, success has always been tied to team accomplishments as much as individual growth. He said building a winning culture and competing in the postseason were major benchmarks for the season.
“A successful season for my team and I would consist of a winning record and as well as competing in the postseason,” Logan said.
