After earning all-league and all-state recognition as one of Valley Center’s top offensive weapons a season ago, Spencer Crumrine isn’t entering his senior season chasing statistics. Instead, the standout wide receiver is focused on helping the Hornets take the next step as a team.
Crumrine, who hauled in 50 receptions for 735 yards and seven touchdowns last season, earned first-team all-league honors and was named second-team all-state after establishing himself as one of the area’s top pass catchers. With a new quarterback under center and several talented playmakers returning, he believes the offense has the pieces to be even more dangerous this fall.
“I’m really excited to be working with a new quarterback alongside great skill players like RayJ Logan, who was also an all-league player last season,” Crumrine said.
Preparing for the season has meant staying committed throughout the offseason. Crumrine attended every team workout while also competing at several college camps to continue sharpening his game against high-level competition.
While his receiving production made headlines last season, Crumrine has spent much of the offseason working on an area that rarely shows up in the box score.
“I want to be a blocker in the screen game and short pass game to help out the other receivers and running backs,” he said. “I have worked on being stronger overall to achieve that.”
That team-first mentality also defines the goals he has set for his final high school season.
“We want to win a regional title and pass our win total from last season,” Crumrine said. “Other than that, I don’t have any personal goals. I just want to be a better player than I was a season ago.”
