Kayden Morrison of Wichita East set out this season with a clear goal: help his team finish with a winning record and knock off opponents the Aces had not beaten during his time in the program.
That goal has started to become reality, highlighted by key wins over Kapaun Mount Carmel, Wichita Heights and Andover Central.
“My main focus for the season was to have a winning record and beat teams that we haven’t beat since I’ve been here,” Morrison said.
Morrison has anchored the pitching staff, leaning on confidence as his biggest strength on the mound.
“I think my biggest strength is my confidence especially while I’m on the mound,” he said. “It helps me stay locked in and perform better and can also hype up our team giving us more energy.”
That confidence has translated into noticeable growth this season. After an offseason focused on refining mechanics and building velocity through a structured throwing program, Morrison said he entered the year with a sharper, more efficient delivery and the goal of becoming a more dominant presence on the mound.
“This season I wanted to become a better and more feared pitcher,” he said. “I did a throwing program in the winter and it has definitely helped. I gained velo and really refined and tuned my mechanics making them more efficient.”
For Morrison, success goes beyond individual numbers and is defined by team results and postseason progress.
“A successful season would mean a winning record as well as a run in the playoffs,” he said.
