Yulisa Herrera-Trejo, a 2025 graduate, is an essential player for Wichita North High School’s softball team, specializing in centerfield. As she enters her final season, Herrera-Trejo’s primary focus is on mental strength and supporting her teammates. “I’m mainly focusing on not getting into my head during games,” she told Vype Magazine, adding that she also wants to encourage her teammates, helping them stay positive and confident.

Herrera-Trejo is particularly excited for her team’s first game of the season, a rivalry matchup against Wichita Heights. “Our longest games have been against them, and there’s so much anticipation leading up to it.” As for challenges, she is working on improving her base-stealing skills, hitting, and maintaining focus throughout the game.

During the offseason, Herrera-Trejo stayed in shape by running and incorporating stretching into her routine. “I wanted to make sure I stayed in shape and got into the habit of stretching every day.” She also emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness year-round.

One of Herrera-Trejo’s proudest moments came last year when she was named “Player of the Game.” Reflecting on her growth as an athlete, she said, “I’m proud of improving my hitting and getting on base more. When I first started playing softball, I knew nothing, and now, as I approach my last year, I’m proud to see how far I’ve come.”

Looking ahead, Herrera-Trejo plans to apply for the surgical tech program at WSU Tech and work as a CNA in the meantime. Outside of softball, she is actively involved in clubs like STUCO, Trio, Spanish Honor Society, and Biomed, where she shadows at hospitals and prepares for her future career in healthcare.
