Wichita Southeast’s Kenny Jackson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Tommy Leach Shelter Insurance

The Wichita Southeast football team is off to a 3-1 start and linebacker Kenny Jackson is optimistic that this just the beginning to a special season.

“With big games ahead, while being 3-1 and breaking a streak by beating Heights, we’re making history and we plan on finishing the regular season 7-1.”

The Buffaloes have struggled in recent seasons, but Jackson thinks this year’s team is the one to switch the direction of the program.

“I want to accomplish as a team is a state title or a deep run into the playoffs,” Jackson said. “Both are very possible and I think we have the right team to do it.”

Jackson has some individual goals he wants to accomplish, but ultimately stats don’t matter as much as team success.

“One thing that I wanted to accomplish is 100-plus tackles this season and I’m still working on it,” Jackson said. “But I’d rather win and do my job then go tackle hunting.”

There are many reasons why the Buffaloes have turned things around, but Jackson attributes it to what head coach Corby Milleson has done to the culture.

“I also want to thank our coaches (Milleson, Sims, Conerly etc.) for building this culture that we have,” Jackson said. “The main thing our head coach (Milleson) says is ‘The standard is the standard; and we follow that standard and fly to the football and hit them in the mouth every play. We’re not done yet so stay tuned.”
