Alex Majors entered his senior season at Wichita Trinity with a simple goal: enjoy every round.
“My primary focus going into my senior season was to have as much fun as possible,” Majors said. “I’ve always struggled with my mental game on the course and usually didn’t enjoy my rounds unless I played great. In contrast this season, whether I play good or bad, I have a great time.”
That shift in mindset has not only changed his experience on the course, but also strengthened one of his biggest assets as a player.
“To build off my last answer, my mental game is my greatest strength,” Majors said. “Staying level headed in golf is necessary for playing consistent golf and being someone my teammates can rely on. Going into the postseason with more pressure, this will be key to helping my team to the state title.”
While mental toughness has defined his growth, Majors also focused on simplifying his physical approach to the game.
“I wanted to be more a feel player this year — I often get too focused on swing mechanics,” Majors said. “Over the offseason I just developed the ‘feels’ that help me have a good swing without thinking too much about my swing.”
For Majors, success is measured in both team achievement and personal perspective.
“Obviously I want to win the state championship, however, all that matters to me is that my teammates and I tried our best,” Majors said. “With that, I believe if we all try our best and work hard then we can achieve the title.”
The results have reflected his growth. After posting a 79.2 scoring average last season, Majors has improved to a 77.2 average this year, highlighted by a Central Plains League and regional runner-up finish. He has also earned one individual win this season.
As the postseason approaches, Majors is focused on keeping the same mindset that has carried him through his senior year—one centered on trust, calm, and enjoying the game.
