Winfield’s Kellan Gibson knows there’s a lot riding on the season for the Vikings, and being his senior season, Gibson is ready to put in the work to be playing some November ball.
“The main thing I wanted to focus on this season was the mental side of the game like reading defenses and knowing when and when not to check the play and recognition blitzes,” Gibson said.
While working to be his best both on and off the field, Gibson also has aspirations to better his numbers and stats throughout the fall as well.
“The main thing I want to aim for this season is another winning season,” Gibson said. “Then finish late in the playoffs. Stats wise I would like to go 1,000 yards for rushing and passing.”
One of the biggest games of the season is one Gibson and most Cowley County members look forward to every year.
“I’m very excited for the Cowley Cup, our rival game against Ark City,” Gibson said. “Every year it’s a great game with plays made on both sides of the ball.”
With the stakes being high every year, Gibson strives to make it an exciting night, especially for the team.
“My most memorable moment was scoring the game winning pass with under two minutes left in the Cowley Cup last fall by breaking a sack then scrambling with my eyes down field to find a receiver,” Gibson said.
