Wichita North’s Aubrey Shurley – Soccer Poll Winner – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Wichita North’s Aubrey Shurley was a first-team all-league selection last season, but she knows there are still areas where she can improve.

“My individual goal is to be a consistent player and leader,” Shurley said. “I want to continue improving my skills and be someone my teammates can rely on every day. I want to bring energy and effort every time I am on the field. As a center back, my goal is to help lead our defense, communicate well, and keep our team organized. I also want to bring a positive attitude to every practice and game.”

On the pitch, there are a few fundamentals Shurley believes she can improve to help the Redhawks build on their six-win season from a year ago.

“One area I want to improve on this year is winning balls in the air and taking more players one-on-one,” Shurley said. “I worked on this during the offseason by challenging myself in practice and treating every practice and scrimmage like a game situation.”

Shurley and her teammates put in the work during the offseason, and now she is eager to see how that preparation translates during the regular season.

“I hope we bring our offseason work onto the field,” Shurley said. “I am excited to challenge myself as well as my teammates and build that chemistry as a team, and to represent North High in the best way this season. I’m looking forward to giving my best effort every game and seeing how far we can go together this year as a team.”
