It has been an interesting transition for the Wichita Heights track team.
While the boys graduated a strong senior class in 2025, the sophomore boys — including CJ Jefferson — are proving that they will be a group to reckon with.
“(He) had his freshman season cut short, but this year he’s come back really strong,” coach Jivi Foster said. “He’s finishing in the low 11s for the 100-meter-dash.”
As for the girls team, they have placed in the top half of all their meets this season.
Heights’ top two athletes are Aaliyah Bolden and Secret Dye.
“The best thing about these young ladies is that they’re willing to put in the work, and they’re great leaders,” Foster said. “They lead by example.
“The end goal is to have them back on the podium this year at state, and they’re both doing a great job of working towards that.”
Bolden is the defending 200 meter champion in the City League. She finished fourth in 6A, as well.
“She’s working toward having a better finish at the state track meet this year,” Foster said. “… Secret i also working on her finishes in the hurdles.”
Dye was fourth in 6A.
Freshman Ava Dietz just broke a 47-year-old record in the 3200, so she’s one to watch for, as well.
“(We have a) great group of kids, and they’re really a fun group to be around,” Foster said. “They’re extremely hard working. Great group of coaches — proud to be a part of this group.
“If we can put all of the puzzle pieces together in May, it’s going to be really great to see.”
