Cheney’s Ayden Koehn – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Salina

As the new football season approaches, Ayden Koehn believes Cheney has the pieces in place to make another championship run.

With a veteran group returning, Koehn is eager to get back on the field and compete alongside his teammates as the Cardinals pursue another state title.

“I’m really excited to get back on the field with my teammates,” Koehn said. “We have a lot of guys coming back, and we have a chance to do something special this season and get another state title.”

Koehn has spent the offseason working to ensure he’s prepared for the challenges ahead. His training has centered on improving his strength, speed and explosiveness while also sharpening the technical aspects of his game.

“I’ve been working on getting stronger, faster and more explosive,” Koehn said. “I’ve also been doing speed and position workouts, watching film, and going to college camps and visits to compete and learn from different coaches. I’ve just been trying to improve in every area so I’m ready when the season starts.”

One area of emphasis has been becoming a more effective pass rusher. Koehn said he has dedicated significant time to improving the details that can make the difference at the line of scrimmage.

“I wanted to improve my pass rush and be more explosive off the line,” he said. “I’ve been working on my first step, hand technique and footwork. I’ve also watched a lot of film to see where I can make better reads and react faster.”

While individual development has been important throughout the offseason, Koehn said team success remains the top priority.

“As a team, the goal is to be disciplined and constant in order to win another state championship,” he said.

Koehn also hopes to make an impact beyond his play on the field by serving as a leader for his teammates.

“Personally, I want to be an impactful leader and keep improving every game,” he said. “I also want to help set the standard for the younger guys and do whatever my team needs from me.”
