Norwich football player Lucas Fisher is approaching the upcoming season with a focus on growth, leadership and helping his team chase a winning record for the first time in years.
Fisher said the biggest excitement heading into the fall is simply being back on the field with teammates while balancing progress in the classroom.
“One thing I am excited for is being able to have the opportunity to play football with my friends and having a supportive family and community watching me increase my academic abilities,” Fisher said.
During the offseason, Fisher committed to a steady training routine designed to improve both strength and speed while sharpening his understanding of the game.
“I have been lifting weights 5 times a week throughout the summer building my strength, increasing my speed, and lifting with my teammates,” he said. “I have also been attending football practices throughout the summer getting the new plays figured out and perfecting my stance and my mobility to move from one position to another.”
Fisher said one of his primary individual goals this season is increasing his sack production. To work toward that, he focused heavily on strength training and explosiveness off the line.
“One area I have been wanting to improve on is my sack numbers,” he said. “Throughout the summer I have been hitting the weights hard to increase my strength and to increase my mobility getting off the line and getting passed defenders.”
Along with personal development, Fisher said team success remains the top priority, specifically helping Norwich achieve a winning season.
“A team goal I have is to end the season with a winning season,” he said. “It has been a very long time since Norwich has ended a football season with a winning record.”
Fisher also emphasized his desire to step into a leadership role and help build team chemistry.
“An individual goal I have is to be a leader to my team and to help connect the team as one to achieve great success,” he said.
Last season, Fisher recorded 21 total tackles, one sack, one interception, six receiving yards and four total points.
Looking ahead after high school, Fisher plans to continue his education and pursue a technical career.
“After high school, I plan on attending Hutch Community College,” he said, “where I plan to become a John Deere diesel mechanic.”
