Maize’s Josiah Cole – Athlete Spotlight

For Maize senior Josiah Cole, the upcoming football season represents more than just another year on the field. It is the final opportunity to compete alongside his teammates, create lasting memories and leave a lasting impact on the program.

Cole said he is most excited about making the most of his final season of high school football.

“I’m most excited for my senior year of high school football,” Cole said. “It’s my last chance to play with my teammates, and I want to make the most of every practice and every game.”

The senior linebacker has spent the offseason preparing for that opportunity by focusing on improving his strength, speed and conditioning. Cole has dedicated time in the weight room, worked through conditioning workouts and continued developing his football skills to be ready for the challenges ahead.

While physical preparation has been a priority, Cole said his biggest area of focus has been developing into a stronger leader for his teammates.

“One area I want to improve on this year is becoming a better senior leader for my team,” Cole said. “I worked hard to set a good example by staying consistent with workouts, putting in extra effort during training, and encouraging my teammates.”

Cole enters his senior season coming off a productive junior campaign in which he recorded 71 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks. Now, he hopes to continue improving each week while helping Maize reach its goals.

“My individual goals for this season are to be a strong senior leader and continue improving as a player every week,” Cole said. “I also want to give my best effort in every practice and game.”

The ultimate goal for Cole and his teammates is to compete for a state championship. He believes that success will come through preparation, teamwork and a commitment to one another.

“As a team, our goal is to win the state championship by working hard, playing together, and giving everything we have every time we step on the field,” Cole said.
