After a standout sophomore season, Hutchinson junior Griffin Galyon is ready to take another step forward and help the Salthawks make their mark this season.
Galyon was a major contributor for Hutchinson last season, earning first-team All-Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I honors. He also earned second-team All-Class 5A recognition.
Now, Galyon is focused on building off that success and helping a talented Hutchinson squad reach
its potential.
“What I am most excited for this season is to go out and show what I can do and what we can do as a team,” Galyon said. “We have a really solid squad this year and we are ready to showcase that.”
Galyon spent much of the offseason preparing for another demanding high school season. He and his teammates put in work during team workouts, while he also attended identification camps and competed at the UPSL Nationals in California with CKU.
“I’ve been doing a lot in the offseason to prepare for this upcoming season,” Galyon said. “We have put in a lot of work as a team at workouts, and I’ve been at ID camps and I went to UPSL Nationals with CKU in California.”
One of Galyon’s biggest areas of focus during the offseason was developing his left foot. As a right-footed player, he has worked to become more comfortable and effective with both feet.
“One area I’ve been really trying to improve is my left foot,” Galyon said. “I’ve put in a lot of work in the offseason to improve it.”
Galyon enters the season with plenty of confidence after a productive previous campaign. He scored 18 goals and recorded 11 assists last season, establishing himself as one of Hutchinson’s top offensive threats.
His individual goals for this season are straightforward: continue producing offensively while doing whatever he can to help the Salthawks succeed.
“My goals this season individually is to score and contribute to the team as much as I possibly can,” Galyon said.
For Galyon, however, team success remains the priority. He wants Hutchinson to focus on improving throughout the season while competing to win every night.
“As a team, the biggest goal is to go out there and put on our best performance every night,” Galyon said. “The main goal is to get better every game and obviously try to win every game.”
