Wichita East’s Jonathan Flores – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by David Kauffman M&M Insurance Associates

After putting together a strong junior season, Wichita East senior Jonathan Flores is looking to build on his success and help lead the Blue Aces to a deep postseason run.

Flores returns after recording 18 goals and 13 assists last season. The varsity standout also earned second-team All-State honors and enters the new season with high expectations for both himself and his team.

“I’m most excited to compete with my teammates, improve throughout the season, and see how far we can go as a team,” Flores said. “I’m especially excited for the big games and hopefully making a deep playoff run.”

Flores spent the offseason working to become a more complete player. His training focused on conditioning, ball control, passing, shooting and strength. He also played pickup games and trained with teammates to stay in shape and continue developing his skills.

One of Flores’ biggest areas of focus entering the season is his finishing around the goal. He worked on taking more shots, finishing with both feet and remaining composed in scoring situations.

“I worked on taking more shots, finishing with both feet, and staying calm when I’m in front of the goal,” Flores said.

With another season ahead, Flores hopes his offseason work translates into greater consistency and production. Individually, he wants to contribute more goals and assists while building his confidence on the field.

“I want to become a more consistent player, contribute more goals and assists, and improve my overall confidence,” Flores said.

For Flores, however, the biggest goals extend beyond his individual statistics. He hopes East can put together a winning season, compete for a league championship and make a strong run in the playoffs.
