Maize South has a defensive specialist/Libero in volleyball player Alyvia Herbig. Like most seniors, Herbig wants to step up and be a good leader for the underclassman. In addition to being a good leader, Herbig wants to continue the legacy of Maize South volleyball and earn all-league and all-state honors. These honors would be at the top of her list. For a team goal, Herbig and her team would like to make it back to the state tournament and compete for the state championship.
As with being a leader, Herbig is looking forward to seeing her team grow and compete together as a team as the year progresses. Herbig will be able to see her team’s growth at bigger and more competitive tournaments, something she is really looking forward to competing in.
During the offseason, Herbig played club volleyball for the Shockwaves. During her time as a Shockwave, she was able to experience competitive tournaments and get more competitive playing time. In addition to the Shockwaves, she was able to attend team camps and complete workouts during the spring and summer to get stronger and faster.
Some awards Herbig is proud of is being named AVCTL D1 honorable mention and receiving an all-academic first team award. During last year’s season, Maize South placed third in the state tournament, and in the process, beat the school record. Something the whole team is proud to be a part of.
After graduation this coming spring, Herbig is undecided of what college to attend, but she would like to major in business. In addition to volleyball, Herbig is a member of National Honor Society, Cacow, and pep club.
